About The Noble Bear
The Noble Bear is a 2,000-square-foot cottage on Lake Wequas, a small no-wake lake ringed by pines, so the loudest thing here is the water. Drag the kayaks down before breakfast, spend the afternoon on the deck, then light the fire pit and watch the string lights come on over the yard.
The main floor is one vaulted great room with the kitchen, dining table and a wood stove, with sliders out to the upper deck. Four bedrooms across three levels sleep twelve, including a bunk room for four, and the walkout lower level opens onto the lawn with lounge seating and games for a rainy afternoon.
Good to know: the house has no air conditioning.
Gaylord and nearby
Gaylord sits at the top of northern Michigan’s lower peninsula, and it is a four-season town. Downtown has an alpine-village main street with restaurants, breweries and shops. Summer is golf, with more than a dozen courses within a short drive, plus lakes, trails and the Pigeon River Country State Forest, home to Michigan’s wild elk herd. Winter brings groomed snowmobile and cross-country trails right from town, and downhill skiing at Treetops, with Boyne Mountain under an hour away.
Downtown Gaylord is about ten minutes away, and Traverse City and the Mackinac Bridge are each about an hour.
